Never pay federal income tax again?

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

If this documentary is correct, Americans should never have to pay federal income tax again. Digg this up and let’s get this on the home page. I, for one, would love to not have to file!

Brain teaser or am I just stupid?

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

Yesterday a co-worker asked me this brain-bang of a question and I am stumped. I hope I’m not overlooking something simple, but I’ve got to admit I’m questioning all existence.

It went like this:

Three businessmen were on a trip. They were tired and needed a place to stay for the night. One of the hotels they passed were offering a $30 a night special for one room. The businessmen thought that it would be wise to split the $30 and stay together.

The businessmen each paid the hotel clerk $10 a piece and headed up to their room. Moments later, the clerk realized that the hotel had a special that night of $25 a room, so he sent his assistant up with a $5 rebate all in $1 bills.

Once the businessmen answered the door, the clerk’s assistant realized that he couldn’t split the $1 bills evenly among the three and started to head back down to get change. The businessmen stopped him and said, “How about you give us each $1, leaving yourself a $2 tip?” After thanking the businessmen, the clerk’s assistant went on with his business, $2 richer.

The men returned to their beds, and being businessmen, they were happy to only be $9 in the hole instead of $10.

And this is where it got me. There was $30 in play. The men paid $10 a piece and got $1 a piece back… leaving the clerk’s assistant $2.

3 * 9 = 27, add  2 from the clerk’s assistant and you have = 29.

What happened to the last dollar?

What year is this?

Time keeps flying by, everyone is decaying slightly more each day. I told Tim that something he designed was “the bomb” earlier and then turns out he wasn’t laughing at me, he was laughing with me.

The end of my corporate life is drawing near, which sucks because… When am I going to be able to write on my blog? When will I be able to spend hours talking to Brian about our next big web app? Where else am I going to get paid for wasting time?

For the last 8 months I have been making more money than any of my friends and yet it feels like i’m always broke. I’m seriously wondering how you guys do it. Due to my current situation, I am forcing myself to follow Ramit’s “I Will Teach You to Be Rich” course. This means that I will have to monitor ALL of my spending for a month and budget accordingly. In a very weird way I am looking forward to this… as I am positive if I would have started this when I first read it, I would be much better off here in the now.

In the mean time I want to write a book, travel, learn the meaning of life and maybe pay the rent.

This is good enough.

Only two more work days for me at my real job. It looks like I will be able to make the bills this month and possibly next month if things stay this steady. I’m trying to avoid real jobs at all costs.

Shiftcore has been keeping me very busy, which is a good thing. We’re about to send out a mass mailer to promote the new team and to ask for more business. I hope to be swamped this time next week - if you or someone you know needs design, hit us up.

Today’s pissy attitude was brought to you by people not responding to IM’s.

Getting Real, Get It Now and Get Rid of the Bloat.

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Getting Real, the amazing ebook from 37 Signals is now online and completely free. Great read for anyone considering a web based startup.

“So far we’ve sold over 23,000 copies of Getting Real in PDF format. We introduced it on March 1 of this year, so we’re pretty thrilled with the results. But 23,000 readers isn’t enough. We want millions of people to read the book. So today we introduce two new flavors that make the content even more accessible.”

Entrepreneurial Competition - Premium domains up for grabs.

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Myself, along with my friends at Yopos, are hosting a very unique competition. As many of you know I am a domain name junkie. I have idea ADD and I always have to secure a matching dot com, you know… just in case :) Anyhow, the competition is simple - I provide the domains / hosting, you provide the idea and execution. I keep 10% you keep 80% - the other 10% going to charity. The best idea would be to have a sweet fleet of blogs, but I know that won’t work for every domain.

I will be accepting all ideas at ideas@chriskjennings.com. Once you send your email, your idea will be evaluated and compared to all of the other ideas submitted for that domain. Please include your full name, AIM / MSN name and websites that you are involved with. The winners will be announced on Yopos.com 1 month from today. (October 19th, 2006 at the stroke of Midnight). Feel free to enter as many times as you please. On to the domains!

Here are the domains up for grabs:

  • ConceptAuction.com
  • IdeaBuying.com
  • ImFilthyRich.com
  • IndieClothingBlog.com (Comes with IndieClothingStore.com)
  • Millionairium.com
  • Nfant.com (pronounced Infant)
  • Nfantry.com
  • Nfiltration.com
  • QuitCollege.com
  • ScamCenter.com
  • SNBoard.com (Screen Name Board)
  • StartUpp.com
  • TextBooked.com
  • VectorArist.com
  • WidgetDaily.com
  • WidgetCoder.com (would consider a combo for these two)
  • Widgett.com

These domains have all fell to the backburner, I run so many sites that it’s tough to keep up with them all.  Some of these already have websites setup, maybe you could provide ways that you would improve them — I don’t care. I hope you all have fun with this. Good Luck!

Doing this for real.

I’ve decided to start writing here more often. I’ve got a lot of things going on and ideas i’d like to share with you all as friends.

First off, I’m going to make a shout out to Noah for hooking me up with a few sweet gigs. I appreciate it dude.

Brian and I are working on a faster version of Squurl… It was a huge hit at first but the whois server we were using limited .ORG queries to 5 per minute, making the whole script take a dump about every other search. We’ve worked out a lot of kinks and should be releasing it within the month. So you know what that means, brainstorm and buy your domains through us ;)
The world seems to be spinning faster lately. As most of you know, I design for a local corporation full-time. Everytime I look up it’s another thursday… another friday. I don’t want to look up and realize that I have spent my entire youth in a cubicle.

Thanks to my friends, things are looking up.

P.S. New blog design is coming soon.
